Rolls Royce SMR

On Thursday, an important event took place in Prague, Rolls Royce SMR (Small Modular Reactors) was getting acquainted with potential suppliers for its supply chain.  There was great interest, after all, it is a project that means a step forward in the energy sector. And not only for the project that is being prepared in our country at the Temelín site, but also for 3 other power plants of this type in the UK. And even this is just the beginning. The idea is that this type of power plant will be delivered as a ready-made standardized “kit”, which will be the same in Alaska as in Rio de Janeiro or Pohořelice near Brno. Figuratively….

But if you look inside the SMRs, there are a lot of components. And whoever is selected will have a production program stabilized for the next 30 years. Because it doesn’t end with the 4 prototypes, it’s just the beginning. I mean, I believe …

A really large number of potential buyers came to this “buyer’s day”. This can be seen from the photo. Some time ago, I actively participated in a similar event, when Lockheed Martin was selecting potential partners for the F35 program. This seems to me to be much more important, better organized, with a clear idea of what they want, and above all more peaceful. I was quite excited. And that it already works? Yes, there is already a memorandum with ŠKODA JS or ÚJV Řež, and there is already a new HIP for the development of materials for nuclear energy in Borské pole. All positives. And if I add to this the revitalization of the reactor plant in Škoda, then perhaps there will be a resurrection of what we knew and what we voluntarily destroyed ourselves.

So, thumbs up for me, it’s a great idea. And what’s more, if the EU does not come to its senses and does not start considering a nuclear source as green, then such an SMR can stand anywhere in the world, outside the EU. So, the sale is secured, it just won’t be in the EU.
