Idra, the Italian die-casting machine manufacturer, has confirmed that it is now supplying the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas with a press called the Giga Press 9000, which will be the world’s new largest aluminum alloy die-casting press. This is a device with a clamping force of up to 9,000 tons. The task of this machine will be the production of structural parts for the production of the body of the Cybertruck electric truck.
What surprised me about it? On the one hand, Elon Musk is changing the world and the laws of physics, and on the other hand, an idea of what the vacuum furnaces of the future must look like so that such giants can heat treat die parts. After all, the clamping plate of this machine, which can produce a casting weighing up to 285 kg in one cycle, has dimensions of 4.1 x 4.1 m. And since the maximum dimension of the die is 2.6 m, then each die insert for such a tool will have several tons.
It doesn’t concern us yet, but what if the Gigafactory in Pilsen ends up?
