Czech journey to space

Thanks to the Moravian Aviation Cluster, I was able to attend the press conference of the Czech government today on the topic “The Czech Journey to Space“. The main point of this press release was the official announcement of the participation of our cosmonaut Aleš Svoboda in one of the next missions to the ISS in 2027. But it is not just that he would be there as a passenger, he will be directly responsible for piloting the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. A great honor.

In addition to the government participation led by Andrej Babiš, in the presence of the American ambassador to the Czech Republic, Mr. Nicholas Merrick, there were also retired cosmonauts Andrew Jay “Drew” Feustel, USA, Andreas Enevold Mogensen, Denmark and Vladimír Remek, CZ. Even though Remek flew on a slightly different space machine, it was clear that the cosmonauts have no prejudices among themselves, unlike the governments.

In addition to the social level, the conference also resulted in a technical level. First, such a mission will be a great motivation for the young generation, and secondly, if such a decision has been made, it must be accompanied by science and research programs. And I have high hopes for that. After all, in this category of flying vehicles, metals still prevail, not plastics. We’ll see. Just as in the entire aerospace industry, we lack an OEM parts manufacturer, the same applies to space programs, and this is the way ..

It all took place in the Prague planetarium with a live broadcast by Czech Television. Neither I nor my daughters have ever been there, but it was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it to everyone. And a few more photos.
