Elon Musk continues to amaze. The fact that he flies into space is already taken for granted, and I have the impression that we are moving towards the point where we will all have to go there soon. But what I really admire him for is GIGA casting. Just as mass production on the assembly line (Henry Ford) was once key to making cars accessible to people, this technology does something similar. The idea that aluminum ingots flow into your factory at the entrance and then a finished car drives out the other is from the realm of dreams.
But until now, it had a small flaw. Too much aluminum waste meant that a car could not be created from such aluminum if we demand reliability and safety from it. Tesla’s new patent changes all that again. It was published on December 18, a few days ago. The entire car can be made from recycled aluminum. So another step forward.
I am not an aluminum specialist, but the announced output properties mean that a material with 30-100% recycled content is available for impact-critical structural parts, such as chassis gigacasting, which offers performance comparable to premium alloys, but with greater sustainability.
What more could you ask for. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2026
